About the Studio
Established within Hebei Gaodashi Art Group, the Gao Yingpo Master Studio is a national-level master craftsman studio. The group itself is a National Demonstration Base for Cultural Industry and one of Hebei's thirty most recognised cultural enterprises; it has also been named an innovative small and medium enterprise of Hebei Province and a provincial base for the popularisation of social science.
The studio has nineteen members: a Master of Chinese Arts and Crafts and Master Craftsman of the Nation, four provincial masters of arts and crafts, four senior technicians and ten young creative talents — a complete team for creation and for transmission. Under Master Gao Yingpo the studio devotes itself to the transmission and renewal of carving and Ding ware, to the exchange of technique and to the training of craftsmen, with distinguished results.
Works from the studio have been repeatedly honoured. The Ding ware pieces Graceful Shadows, Lotus Fragrance and A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains were chosen as state gifts for foreign guests; Plum and Chrysanthemum were displayed on Tiananmen Gate during the September 3rd military parade; and a number of works have entered the collections of the National Museum of China, the National Art Museum of China and other national institutions. The studio has also published several books and a range of professional papers, carrying the art of carving and Ding ware outward and onward.
